A core charge is essentially a type of "ransom" for your old parts. A core charge is a surcharge you pay when buying a part, which you receive back when you return the old part you are replacing.

Example: you buy a dieselengine for €1,000 and there is a core charge of €400. You then pay a total of €1,400 upfront. When your new dieselengine is delivered, use the pallet it came on to place your old dieselengine on it and send the old, worn dieselengine back to mypartsplace. As soon as we receive it, you will receive the €400 core charge back, meaning you ultimately pay only €1,000 net. It is a financial incentive to trade in your old part.
